At South OC Socials, our mission is to empower the next generation of storytellers by providing teens and young adults with real-world writing and editing opportunities in journalism, media, and design. We’re dedicated to developing a credible, youth-driven platform that covers the stories, people, and events that matter most to our Orange County community, because we believe local voices deserve to be heard.

Our Story
In the summer of 2024, I decided I wanted to become a journalist. Around the same time, I began noticing a steady decline in local news coverage. It was concerning, because local journalism plays the most direct role in informing people about events that affect them every day. Even more, there was almost no local news created specifically for teenagers, by teenagers, that spoke in a way they could connect with. Without it, the stories and events teens care about often go untold.
South OC Socials was created to change that. The newspaper gives teenagers the opportunity to write about their community, earn volunteer hours, and add meaningful experience to college applications. It’s a place where they can focus on the issues, events, and ideas they genuinely care about, and share them with readers their own age. Above all, it’s a space for young voices to be heard and for teens to see themselves represented in local news.
